The Supreme Court of Argentina dismissed the defense's appeal of former intelligence agent Raúl Martins, who is accused of leading a network for sexual exploitation. Martins, who resided in Cancún and obtained Mexican nationality, has been under investigation since July 2019. He is accused of leading a criminal group dedicated to the exploitation of women between November 2010 and October 2014. The criminal activity was conducted through establishments伪装ified as 'bars' or 'whiskey bars' on Avenida Juan B. Justo in the federal capital. The former intelligence agent was arrested on October 3, 2019, at Cancun International Airport in Mexico while attempting to leave the country, having changed his appearance and identity. According to the accusation, Martins and part of his family systematically offered prostitution services and laundered the money obtained to conceal its illicit origin. Both the Federal Oral Court No. 7 and the Chamber of Appeals for Criminal Cassation had already rejected his requests. In this context, Martins' lawyers filed an extraordinary recourse that reached the supreme court in the form of a complaint. The case, already elevated to trial, is based at the Federal Oral Court No. 7. The investigation originated from the complaint of his daughter, Lorena Martins, who stated that politicians and other powerful figures passed through the brothels managed by her father. She claimed they were filmed with hidden cameras for possible extortion schemes. The Supreme Court of Justice dismissed as inadmissible a motion by the defense of former spy Raúl Martins. He is accused of leading a sexual exploitation network through VIP brothels in the City of Buenos Aires and is currently detained in Mexico, awaiting a ruling on his extradition. The defense of the accused had challenged the decisions that upheld the extension of his preventive detention and denied his request for house arrest.
